Starting Line: Should cameras be allowed for more courtroom proceedings?

There’s been a push in recent years to expand the use of cameras in courtrooms — but is it a good idea?

Proponents argue that increased coverage would promote more transparency into what goes on in courtrooms. Opponents, though, claim that broader access may make victims and testifiers — who may be already reluctant to testify — even more hesitant.

Rep. Jim Knoblach (R-St. Cloud) wants to prevent expanded audio and video coverage of criminal court proceedings. He sponsors HF2210, featured in this week’s Starting Line.
