Starting Line: Require more education before passing on vaccinations?

Recent vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks have been making headlines, including a measles outbreak that began in Disneyland.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 141 people from 17 states were reported to have contracted measles this year, as of Feb. 13, with most of these cases resulting from an outbreak at the famous theme park.

The CDC reports one person in Minnesota contracted the virus this year.

Minnesota requires all students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12th grade to show they have received immunizations or have an exemption. This week’s Starting Line focuses on HF393, a bill that would require parents or guardians to talk to a physician before opting their child out of being vaccinated.
