NEWS RELEASE
LIPMAN TO CHAIR ELECTIONS SUBCOMMITTEE
Lawmaker pledges to make election laws more uniform and fair

(ST. PAUL) -- State Representative Eric Lipman (R-Lake Elmo) was recently named chairman of the Elections Subcommittee of the House Committee on Government Operations and Veterans Affairs. The appointment was made by State Representative Jim Rhodes (R-St. Louis Park), the chairman of the full committee.

"I am honored that Representative Rhodes saw fit to appoint me to chair the Elections Subcommittee," said Lipman. "When I served as Deputy Secretary of State of Minnesota, I worked hard to ensure that our election laws were uniform and fair. I am glad to have the chance to continue that work as the chairman of this important subcommittee."

Earlier this session, Lipman introduced legislation to establish a $15 million revolving loan fund to allow counties to purchase up-to-date voting machines. The legislation also asks the Legislative Auditor's Office to assess the strengths and weaknesses of Minnesota's election day process.

The Elections Subcommittee will consider various proposals relating to voting practices and election administration.

State Representative Eric Lipman, elected in 2000, resides in Lake Elmo with his family. He represents House District 56B in Washington County and serves as the Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Finance Committee. He is also a member of the Capital Investment, Civil Law and Government Operations and Veterans Affairs Committees.
