ST. PAUL The Minnesota Farm Bureau has recognized Rep. Mark Buesgens (R-Jordan) as a "Friend of Agriculture" based on his understanding of agriculture and commitment to its future. The award is based on Buesgens' voting record during the 1999-2000 legislative session and how closely it relates to Farm Bureau policy.
"I am truly honored by their recognition as a friend of the farmers," Rep. Buesgens said. "We live in an area that relies heavily on farming, but is also growing in population. Supporting policies that are in the best interest of our community and the state are very important to me."
Buesgens was one of 58 other state legislators recognized as understanding the issues surrounding agriculture and committing to its future. The award was developed to help strengthen the agriculture's voice in public affairs.
"I'm grateful that the Farm Bureau chose to recognize me in this way," Buesgens said. "Their organization plays an important role getting farmer input on policy issues and our job would be much more difficult without them."
The Farm Bureau recognizes legislators' based on their legislative record on agriculture issues considered over the last two years. Issues range from changes in feedlot rules to supporting recent tax bills that implemented new agricultural tax credit for farmers.
