ST. PAUL Prompted by popular demand and great turnout at earlier town hall meetings, Rep. Mark Buesgens, R-Jordan, Rep. Carol Molnau, R-Chaska, and Sen. Claire Robling, R-Prior Lake, have scheduled another town hall meeting. The meeting will be held on Saturday, February 19, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Jordan at Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC).
"We have been extremely pleased with the turnout at all of our meetings," said Rep. Mark Buesgens. "I think that says a lot about our community and their concern for what is happening at the state level and how that could affect our area."
Buesgens, Molnau and Robling have already held meetings in Shakopee, Prior Lake, Chaska, Waconia, and Belle Plaine. The most recent meeting was held in Prior Lake as a Main Street Minnesota meeting with Speaker of the House Steve Sviggum and House Majority Leader Tim Pawlenty. More than 40 people turned out to ask questions of the members and offered comments on issues ranging from quality child care to education and light rail.
"Town hall meetings play an important part in the legislative process," said Sen. Claire Robling. "As representatives of our community, we want to know what people think should be done on issues like the on-going budget surplus and education. The meetings are one more way we can reach out to our constituents and visit with them one-on-one about these issues."
"People are always willing to share their feedback," continued Rep. Carol Molnau. "The significant income tax cuts and last years rebate are what most people are very excited about this time around. But they are even more enthusiastic when they learn that it could happen again this year."
"I think the current tri-partisan government has a lot of people really interested in government and the overall process," concluded Rep. Molnau. "We all think that is great because the more people to become interested, the more responsive we can become."
