EDUCATION REFORM

MINUTES

A quorum was present and Representative Erickson, Chair of the Education Reform Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:15 AM on April 12, 2011, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative McFarlane moved that the minutes from the committee meeting on April 7, 2011, be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

HF 682 (Kiel) Career and technical levy modified, and career and technical education credits provided.

Representative Kiel moved that HF682 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Education Reform Omnibus Bill. Representative Kiel moved the H0682A1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Kiel presented the bill and the committee heard testimony for the bill.

HF 617 (Woodard) AmeriCorps Innovation aligned to federal law.

Chair Erickson moved that HF 617 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Education Reform Omnibus Bill. Representative Woodard moved the H0617DE1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

The committee heard testimony on the bill.

Page 3, Line 22, Insert "Subd. 6," after "124D.42,"
Page 3, Line 31, Insert "Sec. 8, MS 2010, Section 124D.42, Subd. 8, is amended to read:" before "Subd. 8"
Page 3, Line 32, Insert "Innovation" after "ServeMinnesota"
Page 4, Line 6, Delete "8" and insert "9" in its place
Page 4, Line 19, Delete "9" and insert "10" in its place
Page 4, Line 22, Delete "10" and insert "11" in its place

THE BILL, AS AMENDED, WAS LAID OVER.
Representative Doepke assumed the gavel at 9:23 AM.

HF 575 (Erickson) Probationary teacher and principal status governing requirements clarified.

Representative Erickson moved that HF 575 be recommended to pass and sent to the General Register. Representative Erickson moved the H0575A5 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Erickson presented the bill and stood for questions.

The committee heard testimony on the bill.

THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Kath moved the H0575A6 amendment. Representative Kath presented the amendment and stood for questions. Representative Mariani requested a roll call vote.
