MINUTES

A quorum was present and Representative Erickson, Chair of the Education Reform Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:20 AM on March 15, 2011, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Greiling moved that the minutes from the committee meeting on March 14, 2011, be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

HF 638 (Myhra) School grading system created, school recognition program created, school report cards modified, rulemaking authorized, and report required.

Representative Myhra moved that HF 638 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. Representative Myhra moved the H0638DE2 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED. Representative Myhra moved the H0638A3 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Myhra renewed the motion that HF 638, as amended, be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

The committee recessed at 9:55 AM.

The committee reconvened at 6:04 PM.

HF 558 (Downey) Graduation-Required Assessment for Diploma mathematics exception removed.

Chair Erickson moved that HF 558 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. Chair Erickson moved the H0558DE2 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Downey presented the bill and stood for questions.

HF 329 (Bills) Public school employees prohibited from using public funds and resources to advocate to pass, elect, or defeat a political candidate, ballot question, or pending legislation.

Chair Erickson moved that HF 329 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. Chair Erickson moved the H0329A6 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.
