MINUTES

A quorum was present and Representative Erickson, Chair of the Education Reform Committee, called the meeting to order at 8:16 AM on February 10, 2011, in the Basement Hearing Room of the State Office Building.

The Committee Legislative Assistant noted the roll.

Representative Crawford moved that the minutes from the committee meeting on February 8, 2011, be approved. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE MINUTES WERE APPROVED.

HF 133 (Fritz) Trial placements for eligible children allowed at the Minnesota State Academies.

Chair Erickson moved that HF 133 be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. Chair Erickson moved the H0133A1 amendment. THE MOTION PREVAILED AND THE AMENDMENT WAS ADOPTED.

Representative Fritz presented the bill and stood for questions.

The committee heard testimony for the bill.

Chair Erickson renewed the motion that HF133, as amended, be recommended to pass and re-referred to the Committee on Education Finance. THE MOTION PREVAILED.

HF 183 (Kieffer) Teacher candidates required to pass basic skills exam.

Representative Kieffer moved that HF 183 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Education Reform omnibus bill. Representative Kieffer presented the bill and stood for questions.

The committee heard testimony for the bill.

John Melick, Director of Educator Licensing, Minnesota Department of Education

Representative Kieffer renewed her moved that HF 183 be laid over for possible inclusion in the Education Reform omnibus bill. HF183 WAS LAID OVER.

Representative Doepke assumed the gavel at 9:36 AM.

HF 300 (Erickson) Comprehensive eye exams recommended for early childhood development screening.

Representative Erickson moved HF 300 to be laid over for possible inclusion in the Education Reform omnibus bill. Representative Erickson presented the bill and stood for questions.

The committee heard testimony for the bill.

The bill was laid over to be taken up at a later date. HF 300 WAS LAID OVER.
